Tom Doak Talks Tree ID
Maine Woodland Owners Executive Director, Tom Doak, demonstrates ways to identify a few of the most common trees found in the Maine woods in a segment of the Maine Public television show "Borealis."
Tree ID Day
Maine Woodland Owners hosts Tree ID Day on the first Saturday of June at various locations throughout the state as an opportunity for woodland stewards and owners to learn Maine’s most common forest trees.
Join us on June 6, 2026 for our next Tree ID Day. Locations and times will be announced Spring 2026.
Tree ID Trail
The Maine Woodland Owners Tree ID Trail provides an on-demand opportunity for woodland owners and those who care about forests to observe and learn 20 common tree species with the assistance of identification placards on each tree. The placards contain the name of the species and a QR code that connects to the corresponding page in “Forest Trees of Maine.” This guide, as well phone apps such as LeafSnap, are convenient ways to learn about buds, bark, and leaves while walking the trail.
