Land Acquisition Fund

Maine Woodland Owners Land Acquisition Fund allows quick response to land donations, land acquisition or conservation easement opportunities. As funds are put in a reserve fund to support a donation or acquisition when it emerges and will be used to help reach an agreement with a woodland owner on a new conservation donation or acquisition. The fund will also help leverage other landowner donations and acquisitions.

Maine Woodland Owners created its Land Trust Program in 1991 to provide woodland owners another option to protect their legacy.  We have conserved in fee and easement over 12,000 acres in 48 municipalities across Maine.  All 76 parcels of land that we own in fee in 14 Maine counties are open to the public.  Land donations are at the heart of our program since many of our members want to leave a legacy.

While we anticipate an increasing number of land donations in the coming year, there will be many opportunities to acquire critical woodlands that will require the support of the Land Acquisition Fund. Maintaining this Fund is another way we can ensure that Maine Woodland Owners is ready to respond to key land acquisitions in the future.
